JUNE BATES BEACH PICNIC DRAWS OVER 40 VISITORS

On June 19 we held our first Bache Beach picnic. We set up pretty far down the beach as we wanted to keep a safe buffer away from the textiles.

That was a good decision as the beach got pretty busy by early afternoon. At the start, the tide was way out and there were a lot of textiles walking the beach with their families and dogs enjoying the tidepools Most gave no noticeable reaction to us as they walked past. We had no visits from law enforcement all day.

The picnic was well attended. I counted over 40 and people came and went all afternoon. We had members from FOBB, SCNA, Glen Eden, and the Orange County NitOC group, as well as people who had read about the event online. It was a really nice friendly crowd, and it was nice to see a decent amount of mixing and mingling among people. One couple who walked by simply by chance, saw us, and asked if they could join us.

Once the tide started coming in, or because people now knew we were there, we had our section of the beach to ourselves for the rest of the day. Around three o’clock the wind picked up which made the paragliders happy overhead!
