DESCRIPTION:By popular demand, Helen, Greg, and John lead a twice-weekly visit to Bates Beach for those who prefer the middle of the week. Our leaders usually bring a stand-up sign or flag marking the start of this area, which is about 1500 yards west/north of the ramp and beyond the retaining wall. It is important that visitors always sit in the designated clothing-optional area as those sitting before this spot may be ticketed.\NBring your own water, chair, pop-up, towel, food, etc. Potties are only in the parking lot. It takes a good 30 minutes to get to our spot, so get everything you need out of the car. (and take or secure valuables as there have been car break-ins in the past).\NLegally, dogs need to be on a leash despite what you may see others doing on the beach. Be respectful of those walking past you, please don’t flaunt your nudity in front of non-nudists, especially families. Deputies have the right to come down on complaints. If you decide to take a walk, only go toward the west, and bring your towel to cover up when encountering non-nudists. That is our agreement with the county.\N \NThese picnic days are subject to the weather and beach conditions, especially those early and late in the calendar, so always contact us via our Meetup page at https://www.meetup.com/Friends-of-Bates-Beach/ to RSVP and to get any last-minute news before coming down (this web site is free and anonymous.) Enjoy your freedom!

DESCRIPTION:During the summer months, we host monthly picnics at Bates Beach by inviting nudists from all over Southern California.\NOur leaders usually bring a stand-up sign or flag marking the start of this area, which is about 1500 yards west/north of the ramp and beyond the retaining wall. It's a good 30-minute walk from your car. And make sure your car is locked and have your valuables with you. Often, during the summer months, over 40-50 people may be there at a time! We have over 1/2 mile of beach to spread out in (up to the northern boundary of the sea lion preserve, which is off limits), but it is important that visitors always sit in the designated clothing-optional area as those sitting before this spot (closer to the ramp) may be ticketed.\NBring your own water, food, chair, pop-up, towel, etc. and maybe a Frisbee or hacky sack ball to enjoy with friends. We usually have a volleyball net set up too.Potties are only in the parking lot. It takes a good 30 minutes to get to our spot, so get everything you need out of the car. (and take or secure valuables as there have been car break-ins in the past).\NLegally, dogs need to be on a leash despite what you may see others doing on the beach.\NBe respectful of those walking past you, please don’t flaunt your nudity in front of non-nudists, especially families. Deputies have the right to come down on complaints. If you decide to take a walk, only go toward the west, and bring your towel to cover up when encountering non-nudists. That is our agreement with the county.\NWe recommend you read the “Current Conditions” section of this website for any last-minute news about the tides, sea temperatures, etc.\N \NPicnics usually begin around noon and last until sunset, after which many of us drive into nearby Carpinteria to enjoy dinner together.

DESCRIPTION:On the third Saturday in September, people meet at beach sites all over California to take part in the state's largest volunteer event, California Coastal Cleanup Day. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, which is the largest volunteer event on the planet! Once again this year, Friends of Bates Beach will oversee this annual event at North Rincon (Bates) Beach at the Ventura County-Santa Barbara County line. If you can’t make the 9 AM start time, you can still come as late as 11 AM to help with the second half of the cleanup. If you come closer to noon, you can help the people returning from the beach to help at the weigh-in and then take the bags to the beach trash bins. Please call us at (805) 225-3304 if you can join us. A good showing at this event will impress the local County and Carpinteria City, officials. A clothing-optional picnic on the beach follows during the afternoon. Our leaders usually bring a stand-up sign or flag marking the start of this area, which is about 1500 yards west/north of the ramp and beyond the retaining wall.
It's a good 30-minute walk from your car. And make sure your car is locked and have your valuables with you. Often, during the summer months, over 40-50 people may be there at a time! We have over 1/2 mile of beach to spread out in (up to the northern boundary of the sea lion preserve, which is off limits), but it is important that visitors always sit in the designated clothing-optional area as those sitting before this spot (closer to the ramp) may be ticketed.

Bring your own water, food, chair, pop-up, towel, etc., and maybe a Frisbee or hacky sack ball to enjoy with friends. We usually have a volleyball net set up too.
Potties are only in the parking lot. It takes a good 30 minutes to get to our spot, so get everything you need out of the car. (and take or secure valuables as there has been car break-ins in the past).

Legally, dogs need to be on a leash despite what you may see others doing on the beach.

Be respectful of those walking past you, please don’t flaunt your nudity in front of non-nudists, especially families. Deputies have the right to come down on complaints. If you decide to take a walk, only go toward the west, and bring your towel to cover up when encountering non-nudists. That is our agreement with the county.

We recommend you read the “Current Conditions” section of this website for any last-minute news about the tides, sea temperatures, etc.

Picnics usually begin around noon and last until sunset, after which many of us drive into nearby Carpinteria to enjoy dinner together.
